Sugarcane Growth Process

Planting – Sugarcane stalks are cut into 12–16 inches pieces and placed in the soil horizontally or slightly angled, 4–6 inches deep. Each piece should have at least one node.

Root growth – Moisture and warmth help roots grow from the nodes, anchoring the stalk in the soil.

Shoot and leaf development – Shoots and leaves emerge above the soil, performing photosynthesis to fuel the plant’s growth.

Stem elongation – The sugarcane grows rapidly upwards, about 12–20 inches per month depending on the variety and conditions.

Maturation – Sugar accumulates in the stalks, and after 12–18 months, the plant is ready for harvest.
